Mark Holmes

What are your responsibilities at work?
Grounds Maintenance Work, weeding, mowing, litter picking and sometimes helping with deliveries.

Why did you want this job?
Horticulture and gardening is what I studied for 3 years, and I enjoy being outside and this type of work is perfect for me.

What do you enjoy about working?
I enjoy meeting new people, socialising and learning lots of new and interesting skills.

Why is it important to you to be working?
Because it gives me something enjoyable to do, and something to look forward to in a week.

What difficulties have you had in finding work?
Vacancies already been filled or companies worried about health and safety, because of my learning disability.

Background of service user:
Mark studied Horticulture and construction at Bishop Burton College and then when he finished the course tried to find work in this area. Mark suffers with a mild learning disability and feels this has been a big barrier to gain employment for him. Mark is now at a placement at John Leggott College and enjoys it very much, and is learning many new skills.
